CHAN, Tan Lui Danielle
陳丹蕾出生於北京。七歲開始打乒乓球,十一歲被選入北京隊接受專業訓練。移居香港後她加入了香港乒乓球隊。1989年第一次代表香港參加第 40屆世界乒乓球錦標賽,便為香港隊首次贏得女子團體的銅牌。於次年的第一屆世界雙打杯上,又為香港奪得首面銀牌。在1991第41屆世界錦標賽中更取得了首面女子單打銅牌。陳丹蕾世界排名最高為第六位,曾八次獲得香港傑出運動員的殊榮。在代表香港隊期間,她與她的拍檔齊寶華為香港取得了無數獎牌,被譽為香港的“乒乓孖寶”。
陳丹蕾參加了兩屆奧運會和三界亞運會。1998年的曼谷亞運是她最後一次代表香港隊參賽,並為香港取得了一銀一銅的獎牌。她於此次賽後正式掛拍,結束了她十八年的運動生涯。退役後,她依然積極參與乒乓球和與體育有關的推廣和發展工作,曾擔任多項公職,用自己的經驗和對運動的熱情回饋社會。
Chan Tan Lui, Danielle was born in Beijing. She started playing table tennis at the age of 7; at 11, she was recruited into the Beijing Table Tennis Team. She moved to Hong Kong a few years later and debuted for Hong Kong at the 40th World Table Tennis Championships in 1989, winning HK’s first women’s team bronze medal. The following year, she also won Hong Kong first silver in the World Doubles Cup. She participated in the World Table Tennis Championships again in 1991, proceeding to win Hong Kong’s first women’s singles bronze medal. Her world ranking peaked at No.6 and received the honor of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for eight years.
For their representation of Hong Kong and success on the world stage, Chan Tan Lui and her teammate Chai Po Wah earned the affectionate nickname of the ‘Ping Pong Twins’. Danielle participated in two Olympic Games and three Asian Games, making her final professional appearance at the Asian Games in 1998 at Bangkok, where she won both silver and bronze. Although she has long retired from her table tennis career, she has continued to actively involve herself in promotion and development work for table tennis and sports in general across Hong Kong. She serves in various sporting committees as well as public offices and services, where she uses her own experience and enthusiasm for athletics to contribute to the greater community.
