MAK, So Ning Tania
Mak So Ning Tania was the first woman to represent Hong Kong to compete in the Summer Olympics triathlon individual event. Born under parents that love sports and a healthy lifestyle, Tania also follows their footsteps since childhood and is particularly inspired by her mother Wong Mo Ching, an elite athletic sprinter in the 1970s, to strike for excellence. She started swimming at 5 years old and later was one of the top swimmers at her age group to represent Hong Kong at Asia-Pacific swimming competitions. After entering into secondary school, she picked up long distance and cross country running as well, in which she later began her triathlon career.
In 2002, Tania was invited by the Hong Kong team coach to join the triathlon team. In less than two months, she achieved a silver medal in her debut at the Asian Aquathlon Championships junior event. Since then, she has won multiple Asia Triathlon Cup events and ranked no.1 in the Asia Elite Women Rankings in 2007. Throughout her triathlon career, she has represented Hong Kong in one Olympic Games, one Asian Games and two China National Games.
Apart from being an achiever in triathlon, Tania was also keen to excel in her academic. After graduating in the Li Po Chun United World College, she studied in the Chinese University of Hong Kong for her Bachelor degree, majoring in psychology and minoring in sports science and physical education from 2005 to 2009. In 2011, she completed her Master in exercise science. Currently, she is working in the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and aims to provide quality leisure services and promote the sports culture to the public.
