LEE Kui Nang, Solomon

Born in 1936, Dr. Solomon Lee Kui Nang was a keen sportsman represented Hong Kong in Shooting events.  Dr. Lee made his Olympic debut at the 1976 Montreal Games and again at the 1984 Los Angeles Games where he had the honour to be the Hong Kong Flag Bearer, leading the team into the Opening Ceremony. 

In addition to the Olympic Games, Dr. Lee also competed in several Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. His biggest achievement coming from the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games where he won the Gold Medal in the 25m Rapid Fire event.

Dr. Lee was first introduced to the sport by his brother who was also a keen Shooter, serving in the HK Police.  His wife Janie also took up the sport.

Dr. Lee’s life of public service started as a boy scout, becoming a Queen’s Scout in 1955 and progressing to become Vice Chairman of the HK Scout’s Association ini 2007.  He joined the Rotary in 1973, where he later served as President of the Rotary Club of Kowloon East. His work at the Rotary included projects such as the water recreation centre at White Sands beach in Hong Kong and International projects such as Polio Plus.

Dr. Lee graduated from CUHK United College Business Administration program in 1961 and went on to become the United College Trustee from 2009.   During the College’s 50th Anniversary, Dr Lee generously donated and set up Fook Yee Prizes, sponsoring United College students majoring in Business Administration with excellent academic results and in financial needs.

His commitments and contributions to community service in Hong Kong, especially in education, was also recognised and awarded a Doctorate Degree by the Hong Kong Open University in 2008. 

From 1990s onwards, Dr Lee also made major donations in Water, Education and Health projects in China for 30 years.  He was recognised by Beijing and awarded Honorary Citizenship of many cities in China.

Dr. Solomon Lee passed away on the 20th December 2022 and is survived by his wife Janie, his two sons and granddaughter.
