YUNG, Hau Tsuen Adrian
At the age of 18, Adrian Yung had the honour of representing Hong Kong at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
By his Olympic debut, despite his youth, Adrian had already been skiing for 16 years and racing for 10 years. He says there is no other sport he enjoys more than skiing. The thrill and adrenaline that it brings, the bite of cold wind and perfecting each turn.
His first taste of international competition was in 2019 February at the 1st Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games where he placed 9th in slalom race. In December later that year, he struck gold at the 14th Chinese National Winter Games in the U16 category.
In 2022, Adrian commenced his studies in Environmental Science at the University of Hong Kong. He feels particularly sensitive towards climate change, especially as skiing relies so heavily on the climate. During the summer of 2022, Adrian devoted his time to participating in both beach cleanups and diving to clean up ghost nets in an attempt to reduce pollution around coastal Hong Kong.
Adrian considers skiing to be the best sport in the world and would like everyone to experience the the same joy of skiing. He is grateful to have been offered a part time job at Skitech, where he teaches people to ski indoors. Ultimately, he would love to one day teach people how to ski on real snow and hopefully get them to love skiing just as much as he does.
Adrian doesn’t think there are many greater joys in life than traveling around the world and skiing. He hopes that one day when his racing career comes to a close, he may get to teach experience instructing at ski resorts. Until that time comes, he'll give it his all in training and racing of Hong Kong, with competing at the Cortina-Milano Winter Olympics firmly in his sight.
